I wanted to diversify my portfolio, and I thought the alternative energy industry would be one of the fastest growing industries. I went to the alternative energy section of Yahoo! Finance and looked up which companies were top performers. After doing a little research on First Solar, I found it to meet my standards and invested in it.
First Solar was easily my most successful company. The day after I bought it, it rose over 50%. Overall, I made nearly $700 on a $1,000 investment. It certainly was a high risk company, but First Solar is a prime example of the reason why people invest in high risk companies.
